Jazzmen Tea

This CD is a re-issue from a recording made 30 years ago. It is produce by Jack Convery and Guy Robert. By itself it is a very interesting jazz recording. The lead instruments  are clarinet and saxophone. Jack plays banjo and guitar with most of the tracks having guitar. Only two of the tracks features the banjo. They are honeysuckle Rose and San. Dave Marty is a quest artist on the San recording.
If you are looking for a banjo recording this may not be what you are looking for but overall it is a very entertaining jazz with some French influence. Jack does some fine guitar work on this recording as well.

Songs:

Eccentric
C'est Si Bon
Honeysuckle Rose
Moulin Cafe
San
Undecided
Le Temps des Etudiants
Sure Beats Me

Rob Wright to Perform with the Tucson Pops Orchestra

Yes it is true, the word banjo and orchestra can be spoken in the same sentence.

"Audiences are often astounded by Rob’s electrifying banjo playing, engaging vocals and sharp wit. Now, as a result of the production of his recent banjo CDs, Always, and A Banjo For Christmas, Rob has arrangements for symphony orchestra and banjo created by Rob Boone that are proven crowd pleasers."

If you are in the Tucson, AZ area on September 9, 2007 at 7:00 PM - be sure to see this event. For more information go to the link below:

LeRoy Larson - "Ragtime Banjo" CD

Most of these recordings were made in the 1970's during the "Ragtime" revival era when the movie The Sting was very popular. However Larson and Lowell Schreyer began research for this project in the 1960s. Two additional rags were recorded in  1989. This compilation of classic rags, performed on the banjo, is a fun album of music. Eight different musician are credited with performing with Larson including Schreyer on the "Classic" 5-string banjo.
The tenor banjo has a great voicing for this type of music and it is backed up by piano, guitar 5-string banjo, bass and percussion. It is a great achievement by Larson and well worth having in your music library. Now available on CD for the first time.

Available at the Jazz Banjo Store

Cynthia Sayer CD - "Attractions"

Every new recording by Cynthia gets better and better. This time not only does she have a great line-up of great musicians but she has included two of my favorites - Bucky Pizzarelli on guitar and Joe Ascione on percussion. The other musicians are: Scott Robinson (reeds), Randy Sandke (Trumpet), Jim Fryer  (Trombone), Sara Caswell (Violin) and Greg Cohen (String Bass). There's a great collection of songs and two are original's by Cynthia - "Banjo Tango" and "The Gift." Everything about they way these songs are original including the stylized version of "You Are My Sunshine" This CD is highly recommended.

Available soon at the Jazz Banjo Store
