Disney Pressed Quarter

Looking for a lucky quarter? For a limited time you can get one with Donald Duck and a four string banjo. The coin is pressed at Walt Disney World but you can purchase them from:  "Your WDW Store."

Jazz Age Banjo

I recently found an interesting website that explores the history of banjo players from the "Jazz Age" which is primarily in the 1920's. The author of this site looks at banjo players like Fred Guy, Charles Bocage, Johnny St. Cyr, Bill Johnson and Ikey Robinson. I hope that more banjo players will be added. The website is called Jazz Age Banjo.

Buddy Lee 1918 - 2009

Following his discharge from the Army in 1946. Buddy was playing guitar in and around Denver, Colorado. It was Bob Scobey that turned Buddy's career around when he asked him to play banjo in his Dixieland band in Chicago.
After Bob Scobey's death Buddy continued to play in clubs in the Chicago area. Although he also played guitar his tenor banjo was tuned to the traditional CGDA. His real name was Albert Leet. The most well known recording by "Banjo Buddy" was a self produced LP titled "Banjo Buddy." In his later year he also produced a CD that had both banjo and guitar. It was titled "Meet Me In Dreamland."
I was fortunate to have interviewed Buddy in 2003. His story can be found in Volume 4 of Jazz Banjo Magazine. Mr. Leetz died on Saturday August 8th. There is an article written about him in the Chicago Tribune.
