HOWARD ALDEN

Born in 1958, Howard grew up in Newport Beach, California.  At the age of nine he discovered a four-string guitar that belonged to an uncle.  After experimenting with it he met a banjo player at a music store by the name of Charles Shortino that showed Alden how to read music.  It was Shortino that convinced Alden to take up the tenor banjo and in a short time Howard was learning to play some difficult pieces.
In 1979 Howard went to the east coast to work with Red Norvo.  By 1982 Alden had moved to New York city where his career as a jazz guitar soloist and accompanist has flourished.
