tuning and developed an interest in Traditional Jazz. She attended Indiana
University and studied jazz with Dr. David Baker, playing banjo with his
Jazz Ensemble in a special presentation of Duke Ellington Masterworks at the
Smithsonian Institution.
Since moving to Southern California
in 1994, Katie has worked with a variety of groups including: Jim
Cullum's Jazz Band, The Bobby Gordon Sextet, Clint Baker’s

Leon Oakley’s Friends of Jazz, Hal Smith’s Rhythmakers, and
the Ray Skjelbred Quartet.
For the past two years she has been
playing Tenor Banjo and Guitar in the Jerome Savary production of “Looking
