| Born and reared on a farm near Blockton, Iowa, Ovid learned to play the banjo through a home correspondence course and began playing in bands at the age of 12. In the twenties he played on radio stations in Iowa, Missouri and So. Dakota. He then traveled the Publix circuit out of Des Moines, Iowa. In 1936 Ovid bought a music store in Salt Lake City where he taught accordion, guitar and banjo. Ovid moved to Denver in 1948 and opened a music store in North Denver. When banjo became popular again in the 1960s he joined the Frisco Banjo Boys |
