AUSTIN BANJO CLUB

No one remembers the exact date or even the exact year that several Austin banjo players started to "jam" on a regular basis. Some names that were there early on were John Huntsberger, Tony Choban (deceased), Pete Parsons, and Gene Wisdom (deceased). The group met for a time in Tony Choban's back bedroom, then in a cheesy motel on I-35. Finally, they were offered space at the Austin Senior Center and we still practice there.
We play mostly music from the early part of this century; 1900-1930. Unlike most bands, we play the verses to most of our songs. These verses are often unfamiliar to listeners, but they add variety and are often the prettiest part of the songs.
Most gigs start with our theme song "Bourbon Street Parade" and conclude with "Bye Bye, Blues". In between, the choice of songs depends on the audience and the season. If desired, we can play dance tunes or sing-along tunes
