Greetings!

After a year off Jazz Banjo magazine is back for its 7th year. The feature article for this issue is an interview with Arno Hagenaars. This is not a story about what he has accomplished but about the music he plays. Arno has provided sound files to explain some of the methods and techniques that he uses. In the next issue Arno will provide exercises for those of you that would like to expand your knowledge of harmony and how to apply it to the instrument.
The article on Ken Harvey, provided by Howard Shepherd, is a reprint from B.M.G. Magazine. It is a great companion piece that was written by a banjo player from the 1930s that describes his commitment to changing the standard tuning of the plectrum banjo to produce a modern sound for the banjo. There has been discussion over the years about how the four string banjo should progress into the 21st century and this year it is our goal to explore how other's are adapting the banjo into today's world.
Thanks again to the regular contributors for keeping this publication new and different: If you have an idea or something that you would like to contribute to the magazine please contact me.
