What A Wonderful World

 Arranger Notes

        This is a solo ready arrangement of intermediate difficulty. You can learn this and present it anywhere and it will be well received. It is also a teaching arrangement. If you like the tune, I recommend you persevere with the single note sequences, in particular those in measures 17 and 19.

        Since the tempo is relatively slow, i.e. 1/4 note = 85bpm, you may tremolo all 1/4 and longer notes and chords, except in measure 29. It is customary to play triplets with a stroke sequence of (down, up, down.) In measure 29, I feel that the stroke sequence, (tremolo, quick up, down, down, down,) is a very effective rhythmic, tamborine like technique, especially when the chords are tamped.

        Let your performance articulation follow the lyrics. The strokes I have mapped out, and the placement of certain notes on the finger board are well thought out in relation to ease and continuity of execution, should you choose to use them. I usually set out the strokes and technique for a particular figure when first seen, then the next time it appears, you may use the same approach.

The code legend is as follows:

Circled numbers = strings
fr                           = fret number
plain numbers     = fingering
                          = down stroke
V                           = up stroke

The ‘Pedal’ designation (measures 17 through 20, and the last part of measure 38) as used with the plectrum banjo usually refers to the open c-string. If you see it, simply strike the open C-string while you play whatever else is in the measure.

Ciao,

Ed
