Greetings!

In the last issue I made the claim that it was the largest issue yet . Well once again the magazine has grown. You will find 46 pages of information in this issue that surpasses any of the previous issues.
Jim Riley has had a long career playing the banjo with numerous groups, duos and trios. He is also a prolific song writer and master of the instrument. He has written several technique books for the banjo as well. In this interview, Jim shares a lot of his musical experiences. Arno Hagenaars continues his series of Harry Reser transcriptions along with some hot tenor exercises and improvisation techniques. Dave continues the Perry Bechtel series with Doll Dance and it seems like Perry wrote a lot of these arrangements since Dave has been writing this feature for several years now. Be sure to get his book "Play It Like Perry"
There are two new features in this issue of Jazz Banjo Magazine. Don Van Palta has been performing and teaching the plectrum banjo for over 50 years. He has included one of his complete video arrangements. It is the same arrangement he performs of "All the Things You Are." He has included the written arrangement well as a complete video lesson teaching this arrangement. If you would like to learn more arrangements by Don, you will find a link to his website.
Last year at "Allenberry" I met Ed Cuneo for the first time and I was very impressed with his approach to using jazz techniques in his arrangements. He has provided JBM readers with an arrangement of What a Wonderful World for plectrum. He also has other arrangements at his website. Vinnie continues his discussion on banjo maintenance and JBM interviews Dale Small. You will find some valuable tips for your banjo from both of these articles. Finally thanks to Steve Caddick and Eddy Kebabjian for their arrangement of Ukulele Lady. Since Don Van Palta provided another arrangement for this issue I thought I would give Ukulele Lady a try with my plectrum, Hawaiian guitar and ukulele.
